Woodland Maintainance

  • There are many reasons for thinning out. Among others, It allows light into the woodland floor for allowing new and dormant flowers to grow and also it allows the remaining trees to grow wider and more stable, but all this work has to be handled correctly.
  • Incorrect management can lead to trees becoming windblown and severe cases soil erosion.
  • We take care of the site and thin it out in stages to allow healthy development of the remaining trees.
  • In this day of high energy bills, wood is become an ever increasing asset. We can log and split your felled lumbar to any size that suits your fire place, whether we felled it or an outside contractor has.
  • Woodlands can be a wonderful place to walk or mountain bike, and with clear access this can be made possible.
  • We can clear routes, put in path and steps as well as clearings with raised decked out areas.

Coppicing is a traditional method of woodland management in which young tree stems are repeatedly cut down to near ground level. In subsequent growth years, many new shoots will emerge, and, after a number of years the coppiced tree, or stool, is ready to be harvested, and the cycle begins again.

Typically coppiced woodland is harvested in sections or coups on a rotation. In this way, a crop is available each year somewhere in the woodland. Coppicing has the effect of providing a rich variety of habitats, as the woodland always has a range of different-aged coppice growing in it, which is beneficial for biodiversity.

We can carry on established coppiced areas, or we can re instate them.

Fencing is an invaluable step in protecting new trees from being eaten by pests such as rabbit and deer. For more information please click here

A well-managed woodland, such as one in which coppicing is practiced, can produce a steady supply of small timber (suitable for fencing, broom handles etc.). With its mixture of open glades, partial and total tree cover, it can also maintain a wide variety of environments for woodland species of birds, insects and flowers, whilst also supplying a wonderful place for leisure activities.

We are fully qualified and insured to undertake this work. We specialize in small scale woodland maintenance, where heavy machinery is not needed and create less damage because of this.
